Climate change is a growing threat to European regions, particularly those located near the coast and facing risks such as flooding and erosion. While some regions already have adaptation strategies in place, others are still looking for effective solutions. The EURADAPT project connects the more experienced and vulnerable regions across Europe to strengthen their capacity to adapt to climate impacts. Through knowledge sharing, capacity building, and cooperation, practical and sustainable measures are being developed to help increase the resilience of regions. We are working with partners from Italy, Sweden, France, Ireland, Ukraine, Spain, and Hungary.
Climate change is increasingly affecting the environment, public health, the functioning of society, and the economy. The project responds to the need to reduce regional vulnerability, increase resilience to extreme weather events, protect biodiversity and infrastructure, and integrate climate considerations into regional planning. EURADAPT promotes sustainable development through innovation, green technologies, and effective governance.
The aim of the project is to improve the quality and effectiveness of regional climate change adaptation policies and strategies. The project aims to strengthen the capacity of regional and local governments to effectively plan and implement adaptation measures based on data and local needs, to better coordinate activities with national policies, and to involve relevant actors in the process. The result is to make regions more resilient to the impacts of climate change.
International cooperation and exchange of experience between European regions will improve the design and implementation of regional adaptation policies through inter-regional learning and sharing of best practices in areas such as land use, water management, critical infrastructure protection, and public participation. More experienced regions help less developed partners to find solutions tailored to their circumstances to jointly increase resilience and preparedness to the impacts of climate change.
EURADAPT has a direct impact on people's daily lives. It helps regions to better cope with more frequent flooding and heat waves, impacts on health, infrastructure, and local economies. Through proven solutions and innovation, it contributes to a safer, more resilient, and sustainable future for European communities.
In June, a kick-off meeting was held in Chiavenna, Italy, to launch the project. More about project HERE - https://www.interregeurope.eu/euradapt.
