As the South Moravian Region, we have joined the international discussion on how to build more resilient, greener, and sustainable regions, thanks to the Euroadapt project within the Interreg Europe programme.
This project connects European regions, including the South Moravian Region, to better prepare for the impacts of climate change by sharing experiences, developing effective tools, and finding ways to strengthen the climate resilience of territories across Europe.
It focuses on adaptation in the areas of agriculture, water management, infrastructure, and strengthening local governance. A key element is the active involvement of the public and stakeholders so that solutions are based on the real needs of the territory.
Our participation in the project provides an opportunity to share regional know-how, gain inspiration from abroad, and contribute to improving regional climate change adaptation policies. We place particular emphasis on linking innovation, spatial planning, and landscape restoration, areas where the South Moravian Region can offer valuable experience.
In June, we attended the EURADAPT project kick-off meeting in the picturesque town of Chiavenna in northern Italy. The kick-off meeting provided valuable networking with partners from five European countries, inspiration for linking cultural heritage and sustainability, an exchange of experiences in green infrastructure, water management, and spatial planning, and an opportunity to present our experience of rebuilding the area affected by the 2021 tornado.
Electric bikes, a Renaissance villa, a hydroelectric power station, and local gastronomy all formed the backdrop for thoughtful debates on the future of climate and shared European responsibility.
Thanks to the host organisation, Mountain Community of Valchiavenna, for the inspiring setting and excellent organisation. The project has just begun, and we are pleased to be a part of it!
