Many people with ADHD enter adulthood without a diagnosis and without the necessary support, even though they have long struggled with a range of difficulties – from sensory sensitivity to organizational problems to fluctuating energy levels. At JINAG, we respond to current social trends, including the growing attention to ADHD in adulthood, and create a space where people can safely discover and develop their strengths, transforming them into concrete benefits for their personal lives, relationships, and professional activities.
In cooperation with the South Moravian Region and the Akrasia association, we therefore organized a workshop entitled ADHD in Adulthood – Challenges and Opportunities for Family, Work, and Society, which offered a safe environment for sharing experiences and finding practical solutions in three areas: social life, family, and work/education. The event was held under the auspices of Mgr. Marie Jílková, Chairwoman of the Social and Health Commission of the South Moravian Region.
What challenges and opportunities do adults with ADHD actually experience?
Social life: creativity vs. overload
Adults with ADHD bring energy, humor, and new ideas to groups. They are naturally communicative and able to connect people. On the other hand, frequent overload, sensitivity to chaos and noise, and the feeling that they must "function normally" can lead to exhaustion. The workshop showed that the key is understanding, tolerance, and a safe environment where it is okay to take a break.
Family: empathy and playfulness, but also demanding
In families, people with ADHD are often creative, sensitive, and flexible parents. They can come up with original activities and create an atmosphere where children can be themselves. Nevertheless, daily demands, fatigue, and social expectations can be very challenging. The workshop clearly showed that families with ADHD need support, counseling, and respect from those around them.
Work and education: room for growth and risk of burnout
ADHD can be a huge advantage—innovative thinking, hyperfocus, courage to try new things. The problem arises when the work or school environment requires monotonous, precisely structured activities. Participants emphasized the need for flexible conditions, a calm environment, and clear task organization so they can develop their strengths and avoid burnout.
The workshop demonstrated one crucial thing: adults with ADHD have enormous potential—for companies, families, and society as a whole. But they need an environment that takes their specific needs seriously, offers practical support, and provides understanding and space to grow instead of stigmatization.
The South Moravian Region can play a significant role in this area – from destigmatization and education, through the support of professional services, to the creation of working and community conditions where neurodivergent people can truly thrive.
Because when given the right conditions, people with ADHD often bring exactly what today's world needs: creativity, innovation, energy, empathy, and the courage to see things differently.
