On 13-15 May 2025, an international meeting of PlusChange partners took place in Riga, Latvia, to explore innovative approaches to land-use planning in the context of climate change, biodiversity, and societal needs.
The three intensive days were dedicated not only to summarising the results so far, but above all to strengthening the partnership, reflecting together, and planning the next steps. We came together with colleagues from across Europe to connect the different parts of the project, align objectives, and set a direction that will lead to concrete outputs and real impact on the ground.
During the meeting, we shared experiences from the South Moravian Region, where we are working towards a sustainable approach to land use, as a "Practice Case". Our involvement in the project enables us to incorporate input from the field while also drawing on the scientific outputs of the international team. At the same time, we have invited our partners to our region, where we will present good practices in land management and concrete examples of successful measures during a planned visit.
The programme included an excursion to Kaigu Peatland - a unique peatland that shows that different land uses can coexist in balance. Peat extraction, reclamation projects, nature conservation, and recreational activities all in one place.
This example was a strong inspiration for all participants and proof that a multifunctional approach to land can work and bring benefits to different groups.
