Seminar AI 4 GOV or public services in a smart way

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly becoming part of our everyday lives, not only in technology but also in public administration. Innovative solutions to increase security, efficiency and access to information were presented in a seminar entitled "AI 4 GOV or public services smartly", which we organised as part of the AI Days.

On Monday, 14 October, Kongresak.space Brno became the venue for a meeting of more than fifty participants from authorities, regions, municipalities, universities and municipal companies who gave lectures and discussed how AI and digital technologies can make the work of public institutions more efficient.

During the seminar, speakers presented concrete solutions and examples of good practice. Thanks to the cooperation of the municipal company Brněnské komunikace a.s. and Yunex Traffic, the Sender project was created, which uses AI to create safer intersections in Brno. Modern technology can help reduce the risk of accidents through intelligent infrastructure and sensors that analyse the behaviour of vehicles and individuals.

Ondřej Šimíček, Head of the Digitalisation Department of the Central Bohemian Regional Authority, presented how AI can be used in the management of the regional authority. This includes, for example, using a bot that will analyse the methodologies and decisions of authorities or courts when dealing with offences, thus speeding up the process. In turn, the complaints department can use AI to manage complaints received under the Freedom of Information Act, which will improve agenda processing and transparency. The legal department can automatically deploy AI to check contracts against pre-defined templates, streamlining their work.

AI's potential extends beyond specific projects. Martin Žabčík, the mayor of Ratiboř, demonstrated how public institutions can practically integrate AI into their daily operations. From information searches to grant applications, AI can streamline tasks and free up time for more strategic work. Even in waste management, AI can play a role, from planning collections to managing information centres and nature trails.

In the municipality of Mokrá Horákov, under the leadership of Mayor Matyáš Charvát, they communicate with citizens using AI agents or advanced AI chatbots, thanks to the Citymind application presented by Martin Mikulášek during the seminar. The use of AI chatbots in communication between municipalities and citizens brings a number of advantages that can significantly streamline mutual interaction. Chatbots work 24/7, which means that citizens can get answers to their questions at any time, regardless of the working hours of the authorities. This instant availability increases access to information and services. Automating routine queries reduces the burden on officials, who can focus on more complex tasks and personal interactions, leading to a more efficient and satisfying citizen experience.
