PRESS RELEASE: Šebetov Social Services Paves the Way for Modern Care: 5G, Telemedicine, and Assistive Technologies Streamline Staff Work and Enhance Client Safety in the Care of Users in Residential Social Services” (reg. no. CZ.31.6.0/0.0/0.0/23_087/0008

Šebetov, March 31, 2026 – Šebetov Social Services has completed a pilot deployment of a telemedicine solution and assistive technologies connected to 5G infrastructure, which together enhance client safety, speed up responses to health complications, and reduce the workload on staff. The project, costing more than 10.4 million crowns, demonstrates how modern technologies can assist social services amid an aging population, rising care demands, and a worker shortage.
In the day-to-day operations of a residential social service facility that cares for nearly 60 clients with various long-term support needs in a special-care home, a system enabling continuous remote monitoring has been implemented. It helps, for example, monitor vital signs, detect falls, or track a client’s condition while in bed or in a chair. This enables the timely identification of health complications and quicker response. Secure, fast, and reliable data transmission via the 5G network is key.
“It was important for us to acquire a tool that would help our clients feel safer while respecting their dignity and, at the same time, improve the quality of care in daily operations. All of this with an emphasis on cybersecurity and the protection of sensitive health data,” says Eva Kalová, Director of Šebetov Social Services.

“We built the project from scratch in record time. We encountered several challenges, including a lack of standards for assistive technologies, technical barriers, and the practical implementation of certain solutions in real-world settings. Working with staff, partnering with companies that understand that technology must adapt to people—not the other way around—and involving the attending general practitioner were key,” said Veronika Kovács Vospěl, project manager. “At the same time, a living lab was established within the residential social service, where technological innovations are tested under real-world conditions and tailored to the needs of clients and service staff. At JINAG, we strive to ensure that similar solutions are implemented in other social services as well,” added Eva Nečasová, a specialist in implementing innovations in the social and healthcare sectors at the JINAG agency.

The project responds to demographic trends. Like other European countries, the Czech Republic is aging, and the number of people requiring long-term care will grow. According to the Czech Statistical Office, by 2050, people over 65 could make up as much as one-third of the population. Consequently, demands are increasing not only on clients but also on social service workers and on families providing informal care.

“There are currently more than 50 residential social care facilities in the region serving approximately 5,000 clients. As the founding authority, we want our facilities to keep pace with demographic trends and growing demands for care. Šebetov demonstrates that well-implemented innovations can improve clients’ quality of life and make staff work easier,” emphasizes Roman Celý, Regional Deputy for Social and Family Policy.

Technology partners also played a key role in implementing telemedicine solutions. Lukáš Abazid, an expert in network solution deployment at T-Mobile, describes the technology that forms the core infrastructure of the entire solution: “In Šebetov, we deployed a hybrid 5G network that combines the features of a public mobile network, such as broad coverage, while also offering a special dedicated portion of the network that is completely separate and protected for the specific needs of this particular application. This allows social services to operate dozens of sensors and medical devices without outages and with minimal data transmission latency—for example, from mobile diagnostic devices or when monitoring patients’ vital signs. This type of connectivity is suitable for environments where every delay impacts care, and that is precisely why it enables staff to respond more quickly and with greater confidence.”

Similarly, the importance of the practical deployment of technologies—including software platforms, diagnostic kits, remote examination kits, mobile diagnostic laboratories, wearable devices for long-term monitoring, sensor mats, wireless sensors for room coverage, tablets, laptops, and 5G-enabled mobile phones, as well as a mobile 5G gateway, is also emphasized by Tomáš Novosad, CEO of MagicWare: “Our goal was to deliver a solution that integrates acute diagnostics, long-term monitoring, secure data transmission, and ease of use in real-world operations. In social services, it is not just the technology itself that matters, but also whether it is reliable, understandable to staff, and well-integrated into daily care.”

Šebetov Social Services demonstrates through its example that modern technologies can provide concrete support in caring for clients, their loved ones, and staff. At the same time, they pave the way for similar innovations to become standard care in other facilities in the future.
