Young People for the Community: involve the younger generation in the development of your communities
Are you looking for a way to effectively involve young people aged 13 to 25 in decisions about developing your local area, but worried about the red tape involved?
We offer an easy-to-replicate approach to building constructive dialogue with young people. Forget about the tedious process of setting up formal youth parliaments, which can actually put young people off. This methodology relies on flexible, informal meetings led by a facilitator, where young people themselves identify the needs of their local area and turn their ideas into concrete, realistic project proposals. In this way, you will gain invaluable feedback, concrete information to inform decision-making (e.g. proposals for improvements to public spaces or community events) and, above all, you will strengthen the younger generation’s connection to the place where they live – which is key to ensuring they want to stay in the region in the future.
