ERASMUS+ - Participation without borders

  • Participation

Civic participation in the South Moravian Region is facing low public trust and insufficient support from local governments. Our project aims to take inspiration from functional foreign methods, such as the Citizen Assembly, and to learn how to involve citizens more effectively in decision-making processes. Building on our experience in the Netherlands and Spain, we aim to strengthen cooperation between public and municipal leadership, spark people's interest in their community, and promote active citizenship as a natural part of public life.

Why?

We strive to gain and share experience with foreign municipalities in the field of civic participation, strengthen our knowledge in citizen activation, and adopt the proven method of Citizen Assembly as a tool for effective public participation in decision-making processes.

What?

The primary objective is to enhance the competence of our specialists by enabling them to participate through shadowing and completing a professional course abroad. Partners in the implementation will be the contacted foreign organizations New Heroes, Amsterdam, Raons Públiques, SCCL, and Barcelona.

How?

In Amsterdam, we will be working with New Heroes to learn about the Citizen Assembly method, an effective tool for citizen engagement in public policy-making. We will then visit Barcelona and other places in Catalonia to shadow the practice of local municipalities and Raons Públiques, which use Citizen Assembly in a different context. In this way, we want to gain concrete and transferable know-how on how to increase citizen engagement and motivate public administrations to be more open and participatory.

What does this mean for people?

Thanks to the experience gained from abroad, we will be able to better activate citizens, for example, in the planned revitalization of public spaces in Kyjov and Moravský Krumlov, in the creation of municipal participatory budgets, in town forums or public participation in strategic planning. The project will also support the development of educational activities, such as the PartiCaffé programme, which introduces citizens to the possibilities of influencing events in their city.
