Earth Day - Be Ready

Earth Day is an annual event held on April 22nd to promote environmental protection. Just in time for Earth Day, we are introducing a new Be Ready project contributing to climate resilience.

Climate change poses a threat to the whole world and it is essential to actively prepare for the impacts of these changes. That is why we have joined the BeReady project (UrBan hEat islands REsilience, prepAreDness and mitigation strategy). The project brings together 19 partners from 12 countries to jointly develop solutions for urban heat island (UHI) resilience, preparedness and mitigation strategies.

Heat islands are areas of a city that are significantly warmer than the surrounding area. It is heat islands that cause major heat waves in cities, which have a negative impact not only on the environment but also on the health of the inhabitants.

The municipality of Ratiboř has joined the pilot testing in the Czech Republic. The main outputs of the project include jointly developed and implemented methodologies and toolkits for urban heat island risk assessment, data analysis and modelling at the city level.
