Exactly 30 years ago, on 29 June, the Convention on the Protection of the Danube River was signed. From 2024 onwards, 3 international INTERREG projects are working to transform the Danube basin into a greener, more resilient and climate-responsible region. This year's Danube Day, with the theme "Water for Peace", highlights how important water management is for peaceful coexistence, prosperous communities and a healthy planet.
Facts:
The Danube is the second largest river in Europe,
It covers 817,000 square kilometres and flows through 10 countries (Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine).
its catchment area consists of 9 other countries (Switzerland, Switzerland Italy, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania and Kosovo).
Cooperating projects:
The Be Ready project, in which we ourselves are involved, aims to provide local and regional authorities with the tools to identify urban heat islands, understand the causes of their formation and their consequences on human health, energy consumption and biodiversity.
