Do you know what an urban heat island (UHI) is? Imagine feeling like you're in an oven in the city center, while outside the city it's more comfortable. That's what they call a heat island! And we at JINAG are fighting it! We are looking for proactive solutions to help mitigate the effects of climate change, and not just in our region. That's why we have become part of the international Be Ready Project of the Interreg Danube Programme, which aims to help Danube cities fight the heat.
This week in Brno, we shared our findings with our European partners and set the direction for future cooperation. Since we are dealing with the issue of urban heat islands, we visited one of them together, which is literally around the corner: the Brno Exhibition Centre.
Urban heat islands pose a serious risk to residents' health, especially during hot summer days and nights when the concrete surfaces maintain high temperatures. This can lead to heat stress, fatigue, dizziness, and, in extreme cases, heat stroke.
If you're not sure how to start fighting urban heat islands, don't be afraid to get in touch - together we'll find a solution to bring a fresh breeze to public spaces. Contact our project manager Maria Indráková - marie.indrakova@jinag.eu
