Assistive Technology at the "With Théseem, No Barriers 2026" Conference

For most of us, websites, apps, and online services are a normal part of everyday life. For people with visual, hearing, or other health impairments, however, they can pose a barrier that prevents them from carrying out everyday tasks—such as shopping online, managing their finances, or communicating with government agencies. That is precisely why this year’s “With Théseem Without Barriers 2026” conference focused on the topic of digital accessibility and how to design digital services so that they are usable by everyone. The conference also focused on the practical implications of the European Accessibility Act and experiences with its implementation. The program also featured our “Home Is Home” assistive technology room, where visitors could try out technologies designed to support the independence of seniors, people with disabilities, and their caregivers. We showcased smart solutions and telemedicine technologies that we’ve implemented as part of a pilot project at a residential social services facility in Šebetov. Visitors could view demonstrations of technologies for monitoring safety and health or learn how modern technologies can support social service workers and families caring for their loved ones.

Together with us, the Guardian Angel organization gave participants the opportunity to experience how emergency care works in practice. Using SOS devices, they could connect directly to the emergency care dispatch center and gauge how quickly and easily help can be summoned in a crisis.

Digital accessibility and assistive technologies are closely related. Even the best technology is of no help if people cannot use it due to various barriers. Accessible digital services, together with appropriately selected assistive technologies, create an environment that promotes greater independence, safety, and quality of life.

We would like to thank the organizers and all visitors for the inspiring gathering, interesting discussions, and sharing of experiences.
