Brno once again became the center of healthcare innovation on the last weekend of November. The second annual Hack jak Brno hackathon, held at Masaryk University's Faculty of Medicine, attracted over 120 talented IT students from across the Czech Republic. As JINAG, we were once again proud to be a partner in this event, which has long supported the development of digital solutions with a direct impact on the quality of care in the Czech healthcare system.
This year, participants tackled 17 real-world challenges from hospitals, healthcare facilities, and technology organizations. Topics included structured radiology findings, automated mining of oncology documentation, personalized prevention, and the digitization of hospital administrative processes.
First place went to the Na jedné vlně team, which developed an application that uses a standard webcam to detect up to 500 facial landmarks and then evaluate facial expressions. The detection algorithm can identify symptoms of facial paralysis, greatly simplifying specialists' work and remote patient monitoring. The application allows patients to perform prescribed facial expressions at home under the supervision of an AI assistant. The data can then be sent directly to the hospital information system, reducing the time burden on outpatient clinics and the need for unnecessary trips to specialists.
Winners of Hack jak Brno 2025:
- 1st place – Na jedné vlně team (X-Face challenge – design of an application for evaluating symptoms to facilitate the estimation of synkinesis)
- 2nd place – MEDIBIT team (Sarcoma FastTrack challenge – design of a web application to accelerate access to timely sarcoma treatment)
- 3rd place – MOOMINS team (Self Diagnostics challenge – MediKiosk design – autonomous medical kiosk)
- Special MUNI MED Award – KOREX team (SurgEcon challenge – proposal for a web application that allows monitoring of costs and the course of surgery, together with staff workload) and Brnomická věta team (MedAssist challenge – creation of a multi-agent AI assistant for hospital employees)
InterSystems Awards:
- 1st place – Voltavian team (StructREP challenge – browser plugin for improving the clarity of the NIS system)
- 2nd place – MEDIBIT team (Sarcoma FastTrack challenge – design of a web application accelerating access to timely sarcoma treatment)
- 3rd place – Brnomická věta team (MedAssist challenge – prototype of a multi-agent AI assistant for hospital employees)
For the first time, all Brno university hospitals – FN Brno, FN u sv. Anny, CKTCH, and Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute – participated in the hackathon together. A significant portion of the challenges involved artificial intelligence, and robotic projects made their first appearance.
For JINAG, this collaboration is particularly valuable because it supports the practical use of digital technologies that can have a rapid, real impact.
The hackathon showed that young developers can create solutions within 48 hours that can save hospitals and patients hundreds of hours of work and significantly improve the quality of care.
