Nine contributory organisations of the South Moravian Region are entering or are in the process of transforming social services for people with disabilities. In this process, we bring an emphasis on participation and transparent communication.
People with disabilities have the right to live a normal life, be part of the community, and make decisions about matters that affect their daily lives. The goal of the transformation is to enable people with disabilities who currently live in institutional settings to live a normal life. The entire process must be clearly communicated and addressed with those it affects.
Transformation is not merely a change in buildings. Above all, it is a change in how we provide social services. It involves long-term work with clients, employees, families, and the public, as well as planning new community services and managing the entire process under the South Moravian Region's leadership.
JINAG joined the project as a specialist consultant. In the initial stages, it facilitated the transformation team, provided methodological support, and helped establish a transparent approach to managing the entire process. At the same time, it emphasized client participation in planning their future homes and the use of innovative approaches in community services.
Gradually, a strong transformation team was successfully established directly at Habrovany Castle. The organization now manages the process independently, with methodological support from the South Moravian Region’s strategic project, which is one of the key outcomes of our involvement.
Clients can live in smaller households, have a greater say in their lives, build independence, and become a natural part of local communities. For local authorities and the South Moravian Region, this transformation brings a higher-quality and more sustainable social services system that respects the rights of people with disabilities and supports their inclusion in society.
A transformation team comprising clients, staff, the organization’s management, and representatives of the South Moravian Region and JINAG was established and operated successfully; it put in place principles of project management and participatory planning.
With support from consultants and the authors of the IMOSH smart services concept, the current needs of existing clients were identified. Clients were involved in preparing and designing the new houses. The South Moravian Region supported the process by identifying suitable sites, managing investment and project management, and securing funding for the transformation activities.
