INVITATION: Conference Life After the Element - Resilience of Cities and Municipalities as a Climate Challenge

On the occasion of the four years since the devastating tornado that hit the Podluží region and as part of the Hodonín Days for Climate, we cordially invite you to the two-day conference Life after the Element - Resilience of Cities and Municipalities as a Climate Challenge focused on the resilience of cities and municipalities to climate extremes. The aim of the event is to share experiences, showcase successful adaptation measures, and strengthen cooperation between experts, municipalities, and other actors.

The conference is organized by People in Need in cooperation with the City of Hodonín and is FREE of charge.

Tuesday 17 June - Day of expert discussions

Discussion blocks, inspirational lectures, and sharing of experiences on the following topics:

  • Recovering communities and landscapes after disasters
  • Adaptation strategies and crisis management during extreme events (e.g., heat waves)
  • Spatial planning and climate resilience
  • The Build Back Better principle - how to rebuild better
  • Benefits of adaptation measures and subsidy instruments

Wednesday 18 June - Field workshops and examples of good practice

Excursions to affected areas in Hodonín and surroundings

  • Demonstrations of nature-based measures
  • Workshop on spatial planning and climate
  • Visit to Sonnentor - an example of climate-responsible business

All representatives of municipalities, towns, and regions - including management, officials, and officers - who are dealing with recovery from emergencies or looking for ways to better prepare their area for the impacts of climate change and prevent damage caused by weather extremes are invited.

The conference is organised as part of the EUKI ELCA (Empowering Local Climate Action) training course.
