Hackathon Youth for the City - Youth for the Region: action students and pupils had a unique chance to turn their smart ideas into real changes in the place where they live. This hackathon supported them to develop their creativity, technical skills, and teamwork and was designed for pupil and student parliament representatives and focused on finding innovative and SMART solutions to improve their cities.
The project was implemented with the aim of promoting youth participation and the development of soft skills among young people. We wanted to motivate them to actively participate in various initiatives and to highlight the importance of their opinions. It is important for young people to feel that their voice has weight at an early age, which will help them in their personal growth and in their ability to influence the world around them.
The project aimed to develop entrepreneurship and encourage participation of primary and secondary school pupils in the South Moravian Region and at the same time to introduce them to the principles of smart city and smart region.
As part of the first-ever HackaTEEN, seven teams composed of representatives of pupil and student parliaments gathered in Brno to work together to find innovative solutions for a better life. More than 30 participants, led by six experienced mentors, tackled problems in five key areas: Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies, New Materials and Technologies, Creativity and Urban Vibrancy, Ecology and Environment, and Mobility. The first edition of HackaTEEN showed that young people have great ideas and a desire to change the world around them.
Thanks to the hackathon, the students learned business skills from idea to presentation, improved their teamwork and communication skills, and learned about modern smart city/region concepts, thanks to which they can make a real contribution to improving their surroundings. In addition, they gained valuable contacts with experts and other students, practiced their presentation skills, boosted their creativity and motivation, and had the opportunity to win exciting prizes and recognition for their innovative ideas, thus practically verifying their theoretical knowledge and boosting their self-confidence.
In Hackateen 2024, the 1st place went to the Children's Parliament Hodonín with their project for the revitalization of Redlich Park in Hodonín, the 2nd place went to the team Olomoucká On Top from the Secondary School of Technology and Economics Brno, Olomoucká, a contributory organization, for their project for innovation in the area of parking, and the 3rd place went to the team Hroznovka from the Primary School Brno, Hroznová 1 with their project Smart office with their idea for a smart office in the park.
